FLOOR STRUCTURE
A floor consists of several components. There are of course the floor joists, but also the beams, the rim boards, the low walls & the hangers.
The floor joists are the principal supports of the floor, installed every 16" C/C (Center/Center), they will make the major part of the floor structure.
The beams, they are used in the majority of the cases, to divide the spans that are too long. Let say a 30' X 40' house, instead of putting floor joists of 30' span which will be more expensive because of their height, a beam is installed at half span, with steel posts to support it. That causes a decrease in the span of the floor joists to 15', therefore to be able to use floor joists with less height and thus to reduce the overall costs.
The rim boards are used to close the perimeter of the floor. We only use them to close the side of the floor perpendicular to the floor joists. The rim boards also help to transfer the loads from the walls, to the foundations. In the direction of the floor joists, at the perimeter, we use low walls.
The low walls are used to transfer the loads from the walls, to the foundations. The floor joists are not designed to be compressed, so we use a low wall in the place of the floor joist above the foundation on the perimeter.
The hangers are used to retain all the components together, in a coherent and uniform element.
A detailed assembly drawing is provided with each floor structure.
We offer three types of floor joists. All have an open web structure. The principal advantage of an open web joist is its open structure making it possible to pass mechanical, plumbing and electrical components without affecting the uniformity of the joist.

"I" wood beam
Thoses wood beam are avilable in 9 ½", 11 7/8", 14" & 16" of height, for spans up to 23'-6".

LVL beams
Our wood beams are of laminated & glued type. We use these kinds of beams in our floors but also to make lintels. LVL beams are available in 9 ¼", 11 7/8", 13", 14", 16" & 18" in height. They come in pieces of 48', but are cut in factory with the necessary length. Each LVL part has a thickness of 1 ¾", and in the majority of the cases, the beam will have to be made up of more than one ply, i.e. several pieces of LVL will have to be nailed or bolted together.

Low wall
Our low walls are generally made of 2x4, but in certain cases we can manufacture low walls of 2x6 and 2x8. We can manufacture them in various heights and lengths so that they are a perfect match for the floor in question.

Rim boards
We use the rim board manufactured by Nexfor Norbord. The rim board is used to close the perimeter of the floor at the end of the floor joists. They are deliverable in 9 3/8", 9 ½", 11 7/8", 13", 14" & 16" in height, and are always sold in pieces of 16' in length.

Simpson hangers
In our structures, we only use Simpson hangers. These famous hangers are easy to install and are of very high quality.

WALL STRUCTURE
A wall is composed of studs, sill plates, top plates & lintels, and is covered with an OSB panel. The holes for the doors & the windows are already bored for you. An air barrier and a lathing can be installed on request.
Studs are made of 2x6, as well as the sill plates & the top plates. A double-sill plate is provided to finalize the assembly on building site.
The lintels are made of timbers and in the case of a long span lintel, or which supports special loads, it will be made of LVL.
The walls all are numbered to facilitate the installation and an assembly drawing is provided.

Walls
The walls are generally made of 2x6, on the other hand we can also make walls of 2x4 for garage and shed applications. The walls are made with a sill plate at the bottom, and a top plate at the top. Each section of wall will generally have between 5' & 10' in length. We prefer to make small sections this way, so that the installation can be done using 2 or 3 workmen only. No crane is necessary in most cases. Then the double-top plate (provided) will be installed on the top of the walls on the entire perimeter to solidify each junction. A 7/16" OSB panel is pre-installed on the external side of the wall. On request, we can also install an air barrier and a lathing. This way, the structure is ready to receive the exterior.

Lintels LVL
Our wood beams are of laminated & glued type. We use these kinds of beams in our floors but also to make lintels. LVL beams are available in 9 ¼", 11 7/8", 13", 14", 16" & 18" in height. ROOF STRUCTURE
A roof structure is made up mainly of different type of trusses, but also of beams & hangers in many cases. The structure is calculated according to the load of snow and rain associated with the area in which it will be assembled. The larger the load of snow and/or rain is, the stronger the structure must be. Our software calculates all that for you. And the finished structure meets the standards of the national building code.
All the elements are numbered and a detailed assembly drawing is provided with each roof structure.

Roof trusses
Our roof trusses are made only with seasoned wood #1 or #2. Generally, we can manufacture almost any models of truss conceivable. For the roof trusses which exceed 12' in height, we make them in two sections so that they can be moved onto the road. The plates which we use for the assembly are provided by Mitek.

Ladders
The ladders are used to make the cornice in a roof structure with two slopes. The last trusses (the ones that completely sit above the walls) are dropped the thickness of a 2x4, and the ladders, made with 2x4, are installed over those trusses and are nailed in the second truss. In this way, the cornice is much more solid than if we only let the OSB panel exceed the last truss and that we rebuild a structure below.

LVL beams
Our wood beams are of laminated & glued type. We use these beams in our roof structures in specific cases. LVL beams are deliverable in 9 ¼", 11 7/8", 13", 14", 16" & 18" in height. They come in pieces from 48', but are cut in factory with the necessary length. Each LVL part has a thickness of 1 ¾", and in the majority of the cases, the beam will have to be made up of more than one ply, i.e. several pieces of LVL will have to be nailed or bolted together.

STRUCTURE SYSTEM
A “Structure Système” is to some extent a complete structure; floors, walls & roof, but which also included necessary materials to finalize the structure such as the lumbers to make the "X" reinforcements, the wind-bracing, the double-top plate, as well as OSB panels, etc. Thus everything required to make the complete framework of your project. You can communicate with us for more detail.
Here is how we proceed. Either you come to see us with your plan, or you send it to us by email. We will then reproduce your plan in our specialized software. When this stage is finished, we will give you a quotation which will include all that is enumerated above.
The delivery periods can vary during the season, but generally, you can count between 2 and 3 weeks for a structure, from the date of the order. Then, it is necessary that the customer plan his project accordingly.

¹ These data are based on a spacing of 16" C/C of the joists and are calculated with live loads of 40 lbs/square foot, dead loads of 15 lbs/square foot and a deflection of L/360.
² The span of 39' - 5" is not a limit, but rather the maximum span for a joist of 24" in height. There is always the possibility to make joists of this type with more height and thus to cover even longer span.
